e-girls (stands for exile girls) are a japanese girl group formed in 2011 and consists of 3 sub-units:
Happiness, Flower, and Dream.
they are associated with LDH, avex trax, rhythm zone, and sony records.
e-girls are also known as e.g. family which is the female alternative to their male seniors, exile.
e.g family also includes subunits as well as soloists.
in 2017, the group underwent a big change in branding. this switch resulted in the subunit Dream disbanding, and members leaving other subunits/the group. read more here

SUB-UNITS AND SOLOISTS
dream ami and dream shizuka are working as soloists now.
dream aya works as staff for e.g family now.
DANCE EARTH PARTY was a unit comprised of members of various groups, including e-girls and exile (disband 2018).
ShuuKaRen was a unit made up of the sister duo fujii shuuka from Flower and fujii karen from Happiness. the duo disbanded when shuuka graduated from E-girls.
Sudannayuzuyully is an active subunit comprised of suda anna, takabe yuzuna and yurino.
BUNNIES, EXPG, AND E-GIRLS PYRAMID
bunnies and rabbits were un-debuted training groups under LDH. Bunnies included trainees junior high school age or younger, while rabbits was for high school age or older.
EXPG STUDIO is a dance and vocal training school chain operated by EXPG, which stands for Exile Professional Gym. There are a total of 15 schools; 12 in Japan, 3 overseas.
The E-girls Pyramid was the old system used by LDH to organize the members of E-girls. Members who the company felt needed more training were pulled form E-girls and sorted into either Rabbits or Bunnies based on their age.

The system retired in 2017 when E.G Family came to be.
E.G Family is the new brand that includes multiple groups, soloists, subunits, and various artists associated with E-girls.
TIMELINE
for their debut in 2011, E-girls had 21 members (before Dream's sayaka and Happiness' mimu went on hiatus)
suda anna and kizu reina joined in 2012 for E-girls 2nd single.
for the 3rd single, E-girls had 31 members (3 on hiatus now as Happiness member mayu sugieda had to recieve medical treatment after being diagnosed with mononucleosis). more members were added to E-girls due to the addition of Bunny members and female EXPG members (EXPG trainees; known as EGD, E-Girls Dancers. suda and kizu were EDG before joining e-girls officially). This is also when LDH announced a system to organize the group (basically a senbatsu where members train to be featured on a single. 16/31 made it on the 3rd single).

early 2013: three Bunny members leave the group and two EGD members, ruri kawamoto and momoka nakajima, were added for the 4th single (which featured all 29 members on jacket covers).
april 17 2013: E-girls debut studio album Lesson 1

mayu sugieda returns after recovering from her illness and participates in the 5th digital single.

EGD member watanabe marina participates in the promotional shooting of the 7th single, kurukuru.
2014: sugeida mayu (Happiness) and takeda kyoka (Bunny) graduate. E-girls release 3 consecutive singles:
e.g. anthem: we are venus - all participating members
odoru ponpokorin - 14 participating members
highschool love - all participating members
12th single and flower member muto chiharu graduates.
2015: E.G Pyramid was introduced. 6 members (takebe yuzuna, hagio misato, ikuta risa, inagaki rio, nakajima momoka, and watanabe marina) were removed from E-girls and pushed down into Rabbits and Bunnies.
13th single released with 14 participating members
dream ami announces her solo debut.
Dreams abe erie stops performing and becomes a DJ for E-girls
Flower's ichiki kyoka graduates. (takabe yuzuna is added back into E-girls due to kyoka's departure).
At this point, E-girls is a 19 member group.
14th single - 14 participating members
early 2016: greatest hits album, new singles, E-girls tour, Happiness studio album, Flower and Happiness individual tours, ShuuKaRen unit debut.

miyuu and kawamoto ruri devote themselves to improving Happiness alone rather than Happiness and E-girls.
shigetome manami and nakajima mio choose to focus on their activities within Flower.
fujii shuuka graduated, therefore disbanding ShuuKaRen.

december 2018: 7th digital single
2019: E.G POWER ~POWER to the DOME~ is the first E.G family tour. it started february 22 and will finish on may 18.
